Learning Our Alphabet

There are many ways we learn the alphabet and letter sounds in Room 4.
One of these is to do our daily alphabet and sounds 'workout' with Jack Hartmann which the children love as you will see in the video clips below.

Wonderful Room 4 Writers

Ben's Bat

Today Ben came to our classroom and gave us a T-ball stand and bat for us to add to our sports equipment.  After we had finished our reading Louise and our teacher aide Tevita took us out to the field for a game. We learnt how to hit the ball without hitting the stand at the same time and had a lot of fun. When we came back to class we wrote about our experience for our writing.

Kendrick's story

“ I like playing with my class outside with Ben’s bat.”

Since coming back to school after lockdown Kendrick has progressed from writing 1 short, simple sentence to writing complex sentences. He wrote this piece of writing independently, all he need help with was stretching the words out as he said them so he could hear the dominant sounds.

Room 4 is so proud of the progress you have made with your writing Kendrick, this is an awesome piece of writing.

Dereck’s Story

“I like playing with Louise.  I like playing with Tevita.  My teacher is the best.  Tevita is the best.  I like Ben’s bat.”

Before lockdown Dereck was writing one short simple sentence.  He wrote this story independently, all he needed help with was stretching the words so he could hear the dominant sounds, that was it.  Room 4 is so proud of the progress you have made with your writing Dereck, writing 5 sentences is awesome!

Shoryaveer’s Story

“We are playing with the teacher and Ben’s Bat.”

Before lockdown Shoryaveer badly broke his arm and was away for much of Term 1. Before he broke his arm he was writing one short simple sentence, now he is writing complex sentences. Shoryaveer wrote this story completely independently.  Room 4 is delighted to have you back at school Shoryaveer and we are so proud of the progress you have made with your writing.

Moving To Music Using Poi

Tuesday 25th February

Today we had a lot of fun using the most lovely poi made with material wrapped around wool that an old school friend of mine made for us.  The children loved them, and as you will see from the videos they are total naturals.

Tea Party Tuesday

Tuesday 25th February

During an afternoon play session last week John, with mini saucer and tea cup in his hand came up to me and said "Louise, Louise, I'm having a cup of tea", he then did the best slurping sound I have heard in a long while.  John knows I love a good cup of tea so when I suggested we have a Room 4 tea party John said yes straight away.

The rest of Room 4 thought it was a great idea too, and decided we should have cake as well.  We baked our own sponge cake, with everyone having a turn mixing and contributing every step of the way.  It turned out perfectly and with jam and cream inside it it was delicious.

John, our famous tea drinker, was a great hand at pouring the 'tea' for all the children.

OUR FIRST MUSIC SESSION

Tuesday 12th February

We are so lucky to have my oldest and dearest friend coming every Tuesday to take Room 4 for Music.  Today we sang Tatou Tatou E, learned how to play musical instruments to a beat and to move to music.  Such fun!
